Illusions in objects

In addition to his pictures and the early sculptures made out of wood like the above mentioned "Madonna" or the "Angel with candle", it is naturally also worthwhile to cast a glance at Sandro Del Prete's at inversion statues and other forms. The illusory effects of these works arise because the faces are created from the inside, but appear from the outside to the observer. These phenomena awake the impression of turning around towards the onlooker. The "Laubengaffer", which is again on display, as well as the newly created "Enthüllung" or "Uncovering" also belong to this type of inversion statue. Sandro Del Prete has on display in his gallery his newest work. The "double-sculpture" is composed of a sculptor in the form of a three dimensional figure and a Venus chiselled out of stone using the inversion technique. She gives the onlooker the impression that she is by nature exceptionally full of life, and exactly because of that she feels spied upon and tries to cover her nakedness. She gives neither the sculptor, who is trying to uncover his work, nor the spectators present, a full view of her body. Especially attractive about the "Enthüllung" is the fact that the sculptor, who is actually the living creator of the Venus, remains fixed and unmoving trying to uncover his statue. The human being as creator remains rigid - the creation becomes full of life, and does not want to be looked at: an illusion? Del Prete has already created numerous inversion figures both at home in Switzerland and abroad, for example, Prof. Turnhead in Tokyo or Mr. Rosy in Bangkok.
